About Englewood Housing Authority

Welcome to the Englewood Housing Authority. Our goal is that all people in the City of Englewood have the opportunity to live in safe, decent, and affordable housing.

Englewood Housing was first formed on or around 1976. The first building to be constructed was the Vincente K. Tibbs Senior Citizen building at 111 West Street in 1976. This public housing construction contains 152 units of efficiency and one bedroom units. In 1981 Westmoor Gardens, a section 8 Multi-Family Housing Complex was constructed for 64 families. In or around 1991, the Housing Authority also acquired 167-169 Morse Place, a four family unit which we hope someday to sell as condominiums to tenants; as well as 115 Humphrey Street, primarily for Section 8 qualified senior citizens who have become mortgage qualified.

Funding comes primarily from the federal government. We provide a number of federal and State programs directed at low and low-to moderate income.

Mission Statement

The Englewood Housing Authority was formed prior to 1976 for the initial purpose of constructing the Tibbs Senior Citizen Building at 111 West Street, comprised of 152 units; 111 zero bedroom units and 41 one bedroom units. The building opened in 1976 as scheduled and was funded as a public housing unit under the U.S. Department of HUD.

A few years later, a need was clearly seen for expanded help for families in the community, and the Housing Authority applied for and received Section 8 certificates. Currently, we have 501 housing choice vouchers throughout the city of Englewood.
